Awash in a sea of stripes

Here is a picture of Lucy and Winston cuddled up in bed by the fire. They got along famously this holiday but as is tradition, the annual dog ass kicking did occur on Christmas morning when the dogs opened their stockings. You think everything’s going peachy and then someone has to get all territorial about their Wubba. As is also tradition the 1 second ass kicking was followed by the 5 second banshee hell-screech courtesy of yours truly. All is right in the world.

It’s snowed a lot this season in Western Washington which made our holiday extra Christmassy. We are lucky to have not had to travel very far to be with family in this uncharacteristic weather. Stoutpup hopes everyone had as nice a time as we did. Now we’re back in Seattle and Frank the fish is doing swimmingly. Deisel had no idea he was even here until about 45 minutes ago when she crept into the office and snatched his fake plant out of his bowl.

Of course that was probably terrifying for Frank, but he’s okay and it will not happen again. Don’t worry Frank, only 9 more days. Things will be great, I’ll play my new erasure cd for you that I got for Christmas.

xoxo Happy Holidays,
Stoutpup

Nothing says Christmas like a pair of bulldogs in sweaters.

Bulldog friends

This weekend we went to Lynwood for a visit. One of my goals was to get Winnie and Lucy back in the saddle again and on the road to being friendly to one another. As I have mentioned before, Lucy has had some adjusting to do since we lost Mazzy, and is a bit confused on how to behave around other dogs now that her position in the pack has changed. After an initial cranky bout upon arrival, Lucy shed her baditutde and she and Winston were acting once again like fast friends. As you can see by the pictures above, they have found it more to their advantage to become allies in the pursuit of fallen treats and unattended platters of cookies.

Lucy in Portland

This weekend we drove up to Portland. We were there to remember and celebrate the life of a beloved friend.

Portland is such a great city that whenever we visit we ask ourselves why we didn’t move there instead of Tacoma when we first got to the Northwest.

I only had the urge a few times to ask to be charged sales tax because I am a Washington resident. Sounds ridiculous, right? I worked at a restaurant when we first moved to Washington, and people visiting from Oregon would flash their IDs and demand exemption from Washington sales tax for the souvenir t-shirts they purchased. I always thought that was funny and extremely annoying. Once when someone said “I’m from Oregon! ” as I rung their total, I smiled and said “That’s nice!” I had no idea about this no sales tax thing. Then they wanted to speak to the manager. What did I know? I’m from Arizona where they charge 5.6%!

Lucy was such a hell raiser when we first got her. A twelve pound ball of energy. I’ve been feeling nostalgic so I dug up some of these old files.

With all the stormy weather we’ve been having in Western Washington this past month, where would you expect to find Diesel?

Doggies de los Muertos

Lucy’s birthday seems to have come and gone this year without much ado. She was happy as a clam with her can of beef stew as her birthday present. She wore her little glow in the dark skeleton outfit out to the park. The following night we saw a Day of the Dead celebration hosted by the Cascade People’s Center and it was an amazing sight to see. The candlelight procession through the P - Patch was emotional for me for some reason. I wish I had known about it before hand to get some nice pictures. As it was, when I heard the beautiful music and looked out the window, I ran downstairs and outside with wet hair to get a glimpse. Here’s a bonus picture of Winston, the littlest cow celebrating Halloween in Lynnwood.

Magnuson Off-Leash Dog Park Witnesses on 10/26

No, this blog is not about our incident from the dog park on Sunday. It is about someone else’s attack turned tragedy that happened the same afternoon we were at Magnuson. The couple of a small dog that was attacked by a black lab or lab mix is looking for witnesses to step forward. The small dog consequently died from it’s injuries. This happened Sunday, October 26 around 4 pm near the water. Click here to read the original blog post on seattle metblogs.

The aggressive dog was known to wear a muzzle. Come on.

This only reiterates my point about knowing and monitoring your dog’s behavior. You do not take an aggressive dog that needs to wear a muzzle to a dog park. WTF. Be a responsible pet owner.

I’m writing about this post in hopes that someone might read it and pass along the information. If you saw what happened Sunday afternoon, please contact 206-484-9428 or 425-772-2389.
